A Look into Yeast Infections
Some would argue that the most common cause of yeast infection is called thrush and affects mainly the female population. This does not mean that men cannot contract the disease, it just means that the female genitalia is more prone to yeast infections.
These type of yeast infections are primarily confined to the skin or mucous like membrane caused by the genus of the fungi called Candida. If you were to observe this in the laboratory would see inside the plates. Large round colonies of white or off-white organisms. The Candida albicans is the most widely known but it is not the only type of yeast infection known in humans.
Candida albicans is a flora that’s in the human body and is kept under control by other bacteria present in the body at the same time. It’s like a tug-of-war and allows mutual destruction or mutual survival, but either way it’s kept in check. The organism loves warm dark places, and it also will tolerate wet places very well too. If you have folds of skin around your belly or anywhere for that matter, make sure under that skin is kept dry, because the Candida loves that type of environment.
Candidiasis is called a yeast infection, because Candida albicans’ normal form is a single oval you cell. When it is a yeast cell it grows by budding as a means of replication. This means that the cells actually clone themselves through the bulbs that grow out of them, which will remain attached for a period of time until they decide to let go.
All right, talk about what causes a yeast infection. Your body has to be at the right temperature and at a specific pH level for the organisms to grow along with its competing bacteria, which keeps it in place. Once the body temperature and pH levels change the competing bacteria die, and the Candida albicans cells are free to change and to duplicate themselves with nothing to help to keep them under control.
Candida albicans fungi have a rather unpleasant way of marking their territory during their growth phase. You may feel sensations that include burning, itching, tingling, which may result in soreness. It is possible to feel more than one of these symptoms at the time. I’ll caution you not to scratch the affected area, because that’ll only allow the overgrowth of the fungi to get worse.
Other signs of a yeast infection include mood swings, depression, anxiety, your ability, cravings for sugars, alcohol cravings, or cravings for carbohydrates. These are the very things that the organism wants to grow. Isn’t it amazing how they can somehow get the brain to crave what they need. Even though it’s not in our best interest.
A yeast infection is no laughing matter. It can be dangerous, and downright fatal. If you have a compromised immune system such as AIDS or HIV or diabetes you need to be especially careful. The very young and the very elderly also need to be cautious. If this condition is treated properly, quickly, and accurately it is highly possible and probable that you can get rid of the yeast infection altogether. The challenge will be to not set the conditions in your body that allow it to come back again.
