Web Building and Web Promotion - Many new would-be web entrepreneurs do not know how to distinguish between various aspects of web building and web promotion. They are often transfixed by the vision of money magically pouring into their bank accounts. And if you are to believe the hype, this can be done with no investment, no product research or development, and no time spent building or promoting your online business. "Just build a website and people will flock to it so they can hand you their money."

The reality is quite a bit different. There is no free lunch. Nobody is giving away anything of significant value. No one will come to your website unless it is worth looking at.

When building an online business, there is really no way of getting around the importance of these things:

1. Product development - developing or acquiring a product that people actually want to buy -- a product you are capable of selling and then delivering.

2. Building an online store - This is a lot more difficult than it first sounds. You need a persuasive and attractive website to display your products. And you need a system to accept orders and payments and keep track of your customers. That's the bare minimum.

3. Website Promotion - Once you know what products you intend to sell, and have a website to sell them, you then have to get the word out about your site. You need traffic, and that means you need promotion.
