An Island Get-Away For Your Little Boy’s Bedroom
Rewarding your little boy with a new bedroom by redecorating it with an interesting and fun theme is a great idea. He’ll love his new room that expect some time before you have to put in work for another redecorating project. A fisherman-inspired decor will just blow your little boy’s mind away!
To make his bedroom a fisherman’s home as realistic as possible, use the right colors. Prepare to repaint with some artworks as accents. The walls can be painted a dark blue or a light green, or a combination of both. Add some specks of white to signify the waves. At the bottom of the wall, paint a tan or cream color to make it look like there’s sand and add specks of brown using the tips of the bristles (just a gentle stroke) for a grainy effect. Beach scenes will also make the walls more animated. You can paint beach balls, beach umbrellas, white fluffy clouds and the bright sun, sand castles and sailboats. Be inspired by your trips to the beach. I’m sure your little boy would love to pitch in his ideas too.
Head to the toy store and see if you can find some toy fish, which can be mounted onto the walls using hooks. Another option is to go to the craft store for some fish shaped cut-outs, painting them in your chosen colors. You can make it look as if the fish are jumping out of the water if you angle them carefully.
See if you can get hold of an old wooden boat from a junk yard or yard sale, preferably one with a flat bottom. This makes less work for you, since you won’t have to make a frame to keep it upright. If you can’t get a boat with a flat bottom, make a frame to help the boat to sit upright against a wall, so that it doesn’t tip. Keep it extra stable by anchoring it to the wall. Ask around at the junk yard if you can’t find a boat there, because they may well know where you can get one cheaply. You need on about six feet long, so that you can fit a twin bed in it and still have storage space. Be careful to measure the boat before you buy. Take the seats out of the boat and put a sheet of plywood in the bottom. Put in the mattress and some suitably colored and patterned bedding. Now your young fisherman can imagine the rocking waves under his boat as he goes to sleep!
Don’t miss out on the floor. If there’s one decor that integrates all the furnishings together, it’s the area rug. Choose a large rug to cover the remaining space, so no need for carpeting. Go for a rug with the same color scheme as the wall. You can alternate this area rug with one designed with a beach or underwater art. Your little one will love his new bedroom!
